5 Tips and Tricks for Saving Your Phone Battery

low battery

We’ve all been there: you’re out of the house for the day, with plenty of errands to run or activities to do, and then you realize that you forgot your phone charger. Nervously glancing at the battery icon in the corner of your screen every few minutes won’t stop it from draining, and if you are going to need it at some point in the day you’ll have to find a way to make it last.

And while you may want to invest in a spare phone charger to keep in your car or backpack you can find great deals for shopping online at Maplin and other electronics retailers. Luckily, there are several things you can do to extend the life of your phone battery for those long days out and about without a charger.

  1. Turn Down Screen Brightness

It may seem like a simple measure, but you’d be surprised how much more quickly your phone battery drains when the brightness is turned up high. By setting it to the lowest setting that you can still see, you can make your battery last much longer. You may not be able to turn it down much on a bright and sunny day, but on those dark and cloudy days you can often turn the brightness all the way down and still see just fine.

  1. Close Apps

A really easy thing you can do to reduce battery consumption is to close out of unused apps. This is accomplished differently depending on the operating system of your phone, but will universally help your charge’s longevity.

  1. Turn Off Location Services

This is a big one. Location services (GPS) are a huge drain on your battery, and should therefore only be turned on when you’re using them for an app in the moment. Turn off location services whenever you aren’t using them to massively increase the lifespan of your battery charge. There are great voucher code websites like Maplin Voucher Codes, where you can get good phone deals.

  1. Battery Saver Mode

Many phones (depending on the operating system) have a ‘battery saver’ mode. By switching this on, your phone will greatly optimize the use of power at the expense of performance and task quality. Some people prefer to keep this mode on anyways and get used to the decrease in performance, just to switch it off when they need something done more effectively.

  1. Airplane Mode

Probably the best thing you can do to save battery on your phone is to switch on Airplane Mode. Airplane mode turns off Wi-Fi, Data, Bluetooth, Location Services, and any other function that would send and receive signals, which drastically reduces the battery usage of your phone. It’s important to note a couple of things about Airplane Mode: you will not be able to send or receive calls or text messages, and you can switch Wi-Fi on after turning on Airplane Mode to access wireless internet if it is available while retaining most of the battery-saving benefits of using this function.
